Luca Vignali studied at "G.B. Martini"
conservatory in Bologna (Italy) where he was taught by G. Siviero; he graduated there in 1982 with the highest
scores. Already in 1980 he became leading oboe player of 'Arena di Verona Orchestra’ while he was
perfecting his oboe skills coached with Harold Gomberg in Perugia. During the
year 1981, he was leading oboe player with the ‘Orchestra Regionale Toscana’
and was studying with Lothar Koch in Assisi, who invited him to attend the ‘H.
Von Karajan Academy’ in Berlin. It was during that time of studying at the
German Academy that he performed concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic, working
with the same Karajan and other top conductors such as L. Maazel, S. Ozawa and
D. Baremboin.In
1984, with a score of 30 on 30, he won the competition for the leading oboe
role at the: ‘Rome Opera Theatre Orchestra’. Position, he still holds, performing regularly. In
1986 he won the first Prize at the ‘International music contest in Martigny’:
he’s the first Italian to have won this contest. In
the year 2000 he was awarded with the “Franco Alfano - Sanremo Classica” Prize
for his talent and quality in the interpretations of oboe literature. He has appeared with the top Italian Orchestras such as
‘Rome S. Cecilia Academy’, ‘RAI National Orchestra’, Milan
‘Alla Scala Theatre’, ‘Mantova Chamber Orchestra’ (eventually receiving the
‘Abbiati della Critica’ Prize). He is constantly in demand at numerous
important concert festivals and reviews such as ‘Spoleto 2 Worlds Festival’,
‘Festival of the Nations’, ‘Settimane Internazionali’ in Stresa, ‘Siena
Chigiana Academy’. He has played the most important soloist repertory with
acclaimed Italian Orchestras and his Chamber music performances have included
concerts with many famous soloist and pianist: Y. Bashmet, P. Vernikov, A. Pay,
U. Ughi, S. Mintz, A. Specchi, A. Lonquich, M. Campanella, S. Bunin... as well
as successful tours around Europe, USA, South America, Japan, South-East Asia. Since 1998 he has been working with Salvatore Accardo and
the ‘Italian Chamber Orchestra’ playing all around the world. Bach ‘Doppio
Concerto per Oboe e Violino’ that they performed at ‘Senato della Repubblica’ was trasmitted by
the main Italian network and recorded for the label ‘Fonè’ – the same
performance has also to be re-transmitted World-wide from Jerusalem.
He
is as well member of the new ‘Filarmonica della Fondazione Toscanini’ after
their debut in Strasburg with L. Maazel as conductor. In the year 2001 he recorded live from the Mozarteum in
Salisburg two ‘adagio’ for oboe and strings by the Italian composer Vittorio
Fael. His
recordings can be heard on the Edelweiss, Musikstrasse, Bongiovanni, EMI, Fonè
e Tactus.In
2008 he has played the Concertino for oboe of Marco Taralli (dedicated to Luca
Vignali) with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, conductor Gianluigi Gelmetti. He took care and performed plenty of Italian 19th Century
transcriptions for Orchestra and woodwind Ensemble (Verdi, Daelli / Lovreglio,
Bellini, Rossini…) and Corticelli’s re-edited compositions for oboe, bassoon
and piano featuring A. Specchi and P. Carlini.
He is active teaching in many Courses and important High Specialisation Schools, such as the one in Perugia, in Portogruaro, ‘I Fiati di Roma’ Academy, ‘Bologna Philharmonic – Abbado Project’. He is often invited as judge in the most prestigious contests, for instance ‘Tomassini’ in Petritoli together with F. Leleux, Ferlendis in Bergamo Muri competition in Switzerland.
